The
Wildhearts
Well, I stopped on track 1! This is 15 covers from various 90s bands motivated by The Wildhearts’ desire to not forget these great songs but to also introduce them to a new generation of audience. The inlay card, which features comments from all the band for all of the 15 tracks, discusses the impact and aspirations behind the choices of these songs. My personal faves were ‘Unsung’ (Helmet), ‘Waiting Room’ (Fugazi), and ‘Pep Talk’ (Descendants) although there are more mainstream covers like ‘Battleship Chains’ by the Georgia Satellites! In some cases it’s pretty futile such as in aforementioned Helmet who Ginge admits “..are just too damn good for anyone to copy..” or Fugazi “..they’ve already nailed the definitive version..” but thankfully the other tracks fair better from the give-it-a-go Brits, whom one can’t really fault for giving a second lease of life to them. -Shan Siva |
