Foxy Shazam
“Introducing”
(New Weathermen / Ferret Music)

Paaaaarrty dude....? Too tongue in cheek to be serious, the unbelievably named Foxy Shazam have clearly been watching too many Tarantino movies and clearly fancy themselves as the self titled 'evel knievel's of rock n roll' - or do they? Although titled “Introducing” this Cincinnati ‘party mobile’ as they describe themselves actually released their debut ‘The Flamingo Trigger’ in 2005. As difficult to describe as the band themselves say, the songs have been thrown together with the main intention of being a feel good dance party. However, its 70s rock rather than millennium trance, with a piano overlay (yes, that’s a piano as distinct from keyboards) over a rock sound which sorta reminded me of early Queen or the Rev Al Green. Personally I think that the songs are too bland and varied (one - ‘Dangerous Man’ was meant for the soundtrack of a Robin Hood film) to really bring this party to life, a job which I would leave to the likes of pisstake supremos The Darkness. As they say, life’s a cabaret old chum, and Foxy Shazam are certainly it.
