Cog
"Sharing Space"
(Superball Music)
Pensive, guitar driven prog rock reminding me of early Rush with tinges
of Helmet in the bumble bee bass and chopping raw riffs of the Gower brothers.
Thankfully the vocals are not Geddy Lee-esque but more grunge like which
suit the intellectual and socially conscious lyrics. Formed in the late
90s with Lucius Borich (son of Aussie blues guitarist Kevin Borich), Cog's
early history is reflective of an ambitious and determined musical project
which has rightfully paid (thanks to the talent of the band) dividend
as the band continue to expand from beyond Oz. "Sharing Space"
is the band's second album and the 12 tracks form a canvas of complex
material from the Husker Du sounding ´Are You Interested?´`to
the almost anthemic rock (albeit not losing that prog sound) of ´What
If´`. Together they produce an intense, introspective and in your
face musical experience. Not to be missed - Cog are here.
