CHARGER
“Confession Of A Man (Mad Enough To Live Amongst Beasts)"

(Peaceville)

.....I don’t know how often I’ve been let down by a new British band in the last 10 years. Whenever a new and promising band has come my way it’s been more hype than anything else. So it was with no greater expectations I accepted Charger’s “Confession Of A Man…” CD. But boy, guess if they surprised me with their aural assault from track one. I’d heard that there was something brewing in the basement but not in my wildest fantasy could I have imagined it would sound like this. And sound it does. Try imaging a cross pollination between old hardcore stalwarts Doom and Bolt Thrower’s grinding rhythms and add a bit of Godflesh’s chaos and you might get a picture of what this albums sounds like (not that Charger sounds anything like these bands). I’m positively surprised by this lot. And even if the album doesn’t hold all the way there’s still potential enough for them to go far, if they don’t piss it all away in their local Pub.
