CALVARIUM When the first reflection
you make is that the band has put more effort into the sound being “true”
than actually sounding more than just OK you know you’re in for
something that can’t be too good. “The Skulls Of Golgotha”
is one black metal album that would have worked so much better with
a fuller, richer sound instead of the high pitched and barb wired one
it is crowned with now. Musically this isn’t anything that Marduk
or Dark Funeral hasn’t done before. In a way this is typical Finnish
black metal, a cross between Darkthrone and Dark Funeral. But what was
once fresh has very rapidly become stale. -Anders
