Blood Red Throne
Hailing from Kristiansand,
the land of the midnight sun in Norway, comes the latest juggernaut from
ex Emperor men, Dod and Tchort - how’s that for a rhyme ha ha! But
contrary to what’s commonly associated with Scandinavian metal,
Blood Red Throne play death metal. Pure and simple. In fact, “Come
Death” takes them closer to the roots of classic death metal i.e.
Florida, giving them a more US sound reminiscent to the likes of Gorguts
etc - indeed, the band even cover the aforementioned’s ‘Disincarnated’.
According to Tchort, there was a desire to adopt a more hands on approach
to recording and less reliance on electronics so as to keep it real. And
its worked a treat, a top notch death metal album no less, although my
only gripe is that Blood Red Throne have the pedigree and talent to have
forged a new Scandinavian death metal sound rather a worthy tribute to
their cousins. -Shan Siva
