BENIGHTED I didn’t expect too much from this demo-CD by Sweden’s Benighted but their black metal proved to be of a non-resistant kind. They don’t differ too much from all the other troll and forest loving black metal ghouls but it’s the way that they do it that sets them apart. With minimal variations they set out on a journey that at times remind me of the better parts of Arckanum/Burzum and like minded bands, of a music that is more about emotions than posing. In a time where everybody seems to try to out-do each other in being the most complex it’s nice to hear a simpler, but not dumber, style of black metal. This makes me want to go and get my early 90s black metal albums. -Anders
