AMAROK
"
Sol De Medianoche"
(ProgRock)

When I get a record by a band (like with Spanish Amarok) that has a history I'm not familiar with I sometime feel like I've missed the beginning, that I?m left with no clue and little understanding of what's going on. Having released 6 albums prior to this new one I feel like the intrusive new friend who wants to know everything past and present but only get presented to the right now. And the present is basically a foundation of prog rock (in the broadest sense) mixed with the cultural heritage of Spain (Arabic, Gypsy, IndoEuropean). I must admit that sometime I have a hard time deciphering where they're coming from and where they're going to. Maybe I'm too much of a Swede to fully appreciate Amarok. Maybe I want my music a bit more structured around pre-set chords and riffs. Maybe I over-think things and just should let "Sol De Medianoche" sweep me by.
