.....Back in the 80s it was so much harder to keep yourself updated on the going-ons in the undergrowth of the heavy metal scene. You had to look through fanzines, send regular letters back and forth and you couldn’t order the most obscure records on-line. Take the Benelux metal scene. That was a pretty big black whole for me. Sure, I had heard of Picture (Hol) and Golden Earring (Hol) and Cyclone (Bel), Pestilence (Hol) and Thanatos (Hol) too but I knew more about the German, Swedish and British scenes. I had no idea Allied Forces (Hol) released an album back in the 80s. Today Allied Forces heavy metal sounds a bit dated and I’m not even sure that I would have found it interesting back when it was new and fresh. There’s something tame to it, something American hardrock/heavy metal-ish, that I wasn’t into back then. And still have a hard time with today. www.steelhunter.cjb.net
