Ahab
"The Divinity Of Oceans"
(Napalm Records)
Awesome funeral doom death that at times is like a heavier version of
Paradise Lost such as on 'Nickersons Theme' and occasionally even like
Six Feet Under like on 'O Father Sea'. Essentially focussing on the (true)
tale of the whaling boat 'Essex' that was sunk by a huge whale, whereupon
the ship wrecked had to then endure the ordeal of survival at sea for
months - needless to say they resorted to cannibalism - that eventually
drove many of them insane. Perfect inspiration for the likes of 'Gnawing
Bones' and 'Tombstone Carousal' that vivdly capture the depression and
despiration of these miserable souls - you are there!! True to the tale
these German seadogs are the musical equivalent of that lumbering whale,
producing 7 captivating and unrelenting tracks of blissfully bleak plod
doom.
